Title: Byoubu

Composer: Xavier Pagès-Corella (1971)

Ensemble: String Quartet

Instrumentation: Violin 1., Violin 2., Viola, Violoncello.

Duration: 13 min.

About the work: This work was inspired by three paintings on Japanese screens from the 16th-17th centuries depicting plant motifs (Cherry and Willow, Autumn grasses and Bamboo in the Four Seasons). The music is composed by establishing a parallelism between the melodic profiles and the strokes of the painting and also between the structure of the music and the distribution of the plants on the canvas. It was awarded the 1st Centcelles Composition Prize and there is a version for saxophone quartet.
